The present study aims at to analyse that Mrs Morel in Sons and Lovers is the main reason of bringing the catastrophe in the lives of different characters, particularly in Paul Morels’. He seeks relief from his internal problems by externalising them in fiction. Lawrence writes, because of the internal compulsion or necessity. He himself suffered a lot because of his mother’s excessive love that left him restless throughout his life. Lawrence actually uses his art to depict the bad condition of the youth including himself. It’s the tragedy of thousands of young men in England. In a letter to Edward Garnet, dated November 14, 1912, Lawrence says to him that, “I tell you I have written a great book. It was a problem faced by the youth of England at the beginning of twentieth century. He has become the voice of thousands of young man in his times. Lawrences novel Sons and Lovers depicts the unhappy marriage between Walter and Gertrude Morel, and their four children. He Unlike Freud shows the ill effects of mother’s excessive love on their sons. It is also unfortunate that he is misunderstood as a supporter of Sigmund Freud.
